Before you send it: the free portfolio self-check
Run through 16 yes/no questions before you send your portfolio with a job application: what a reviewer sees in the first minute, which projects you show and in what order, whether your role and each project's idea are clear, layout, length, tailoring to the practice and the file itself. Written by the architects at blng studio.

What's in the self-check
16 questions to tick as Yes or Not yet, on one page.
- The first minute: your strongest project on the opening spread, your name and contact details clear, what you're good at obvious within a minute.
- Project selection and order: your best projects, not all of them, in a deliberate order that shows the range the role needs.
- Your role: what you did on each project, including group and office work.
- Narrative: the question or brief, the idea in one sentence and one image, and how it developed.
- Layout and hierarchy: one clear lead image per spread, short readable text, consistent styles.
- Length: a short application version, with a longer version kept for the interview.
- Tailored to the practice: selection, order, format and length adjusted for each application.
- The file: a single PDF, under about 10 MB, with a sensible file name.
Format: PDF, one page
